I'm sure many of you were looking forward to an update. Right?
I think the Love score is a bit off. That number is far too generous.Mood: contemplative Background noise: Safety Dance - Men Without Hats

| » Sneak attack! |
I was playing with Mysko out on the porch when suddenly there was a large rottweiler on top of him. Apparently there's a loose plank in the fence between the front garden and the neighbour's side.... fortunately he heard me yell and hastily came to chastise his pet. Then he stayed for a bit to chat and try to get Mysko to come within three feet of him. Mysko is a bit shy. I felt a bit caught out myself, in my comfy bottoms and the t-shirt I'd slept in, not having showered or brushed my teeth.... so much for the famous privacy of living in the countryside!
Anyway, I had actually been introduced on the day J&J left, and at the time put forward the thought that the dogs should meet on neutral ground and be given the opportunity to make friends, in order to avoid potential future confrontations that could end in a fight. Then I promptly forgot about it for two weeks, and with the tv blaring and hiding under my headphones I apparently never heard the doorbell or knocking. So, the neighbour decided that now, finally, we should go for a walk together.
Most of the area around here are plowed fields, not really suitable for walks. Fortunately there's a little bit of forest just behind the neighbour's house where he usually walks his rottie. It's not as big as I expected, and of course full of mosquitoes and other unpleasant things. Like water. Half of it is basically wetlands, where Mysko and the rottie happily frolicked, covering themselves with mud and ticks. Wonderful.
When we got back out and went past the neighbour's house again, his girlfriend came out with a camera and took some pictures of Mysko. What is up with people doing that? I've been stopped on the street in the city by random strangers/tourists asking if they can get a photo with my dog. Seriously.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the whole experience, but at least Mysko seemed to enjoy it, even if he did come back with half a dozen nasty blood-sucking parasites. It's not like I went away empty-handed either, the neighbour drew me a map afterwards that will supposedly lead me to treasure! Arr! Nay, I mean a bigger forest. It's meant to be really nice, I might go out and have a look some day if it's not raining.
Paragraphs omg!

| » Something to read to help you sleep |
It feels strange to wake up and realise I don't have to think about what I'm going to do today. Or tomorrow, or the day after. Apparently living in a house in the country with 3 cats (and 1 dog) is quite a lot of work. After all the mundane tasks, cleaning up and going walkies and weeding and whatnot, have all been taken care of and we've all been fed, I have just about enough time left in the day to visit my daily sites, play or maybe read for a little bit. I might be losing some hours here and there since I sleep until pretty late in the day. Maybe. Still, it almost feels like I have a job.... but at least it's entertaining in its own way. The cats are now at that wonderful stage where they've started to lose their fear of the dog but still intensely dislike him. When he walks past one of them, she'll hiss straight into his face but no longer bother to arch her back or fluff up her tail. It's kinda cute and funny (except to the dog, I'm sure). One of the male kitties, Inkspot, is continuously surprised to meet the dog every morning, as if he's completely forgotten. He runs away all spooked and fuzzy, then seems to remember that there's no danger and sheepishly return with his tail low. Adorable. It's funny how some things turn out. The one called Matilda used to be my favourite, because she goes almost limp when you pick her up and you can hold her like a baby in your arms. Now that I've spent more time with her I realised she's such a... a typical cat! She's the only one who still growls at my beautiful dog, which annoys me. She always gets in the cupboard when I'm getting something from the freezer and then I have to wait for half an hour before she comes out again. She's quite impossible to deal with when cooking, she'll even walk across the top of the stove (thankfully not actually hot at the time) and stick her nose in sizzling pans. Ooooh, that little.... she'll try to steal my food while I'm eating it. If I hold the bowl out of reach, she attempts instead to snatch something right off my spoon. She's been taught to take treats out of her owners' mouths, so I guess it's only a matter of time before I get on some involuntary dieting. The other male, Hemingway, has his own way of grating at my patience. I'm kept well up to date on his whereabouts, as he loudly announces when he's been on the litterbox, eaten some food or tirelessly howls for hours on end when he's not allowed to go outside, which is always. I'm far too worried that they'll go missing or get hurt. However, that could possibly change. I've amused myself the past few days by playing the feline version of How Many Licks Does It Take To Get To The Centre Of A Tootsie Roll Pop? In this case, the lick is my magic brush and the tootsie roll pop is Hemingway. That cat seriously never stops shedding. Perhaps I will make a pillow for Jim and Jo by the time they get back.... or maybe knit a sweater. Little shy, scaredy, quiet Inky has become my new precious. Even if he eats the dogfood. Jim called him a coward, but he was brave enough to join me and the dog on the sofa on the first night. When the other two cats go sulking upstairs, he's always on the sofa or windowsill nearby. Without making noise or taking offense at our presence. I found myself wishing for a camera for the first time the other day when he and the dog both adopted the same ridiculous pose simultaneously, rolling over on their backs and spreading their legs lazily in the air. Later he fell asleep on my keyboard, where Matilda decided to join him and cuddle up together. He's not as easy to handle as the others, but I might smuggle him into my bags when I go home anyway.

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test
Do you live in the real world or a fantasy world? :P I saw her spinning clockwise, of course, and it was only with a lot of difficulty that I managed to switch it around the first time (it got easier the more I tried back and forth).... first glance is always clockwise, though.
